Luxans are a humanoid, warrior race originating from the Delta Quadrant, near the Uncharted Territories. Culturally, Luxans bear many similiarities to Klingons and it is theorized that the races may be distantly related. Luxans are positively known to be cousins of the Ilanics.
Physiology[]
Luxans are characterized primarily by the eight tentacles -- called "tenkas" that extend from their heads in place of hair. Luxan males have lengthy, pointed chins -- which may be tattooed to denote military rank. Luxan males are also subject to a type of madness called "Hyper-Rage", which is a blinding rage that subsides only when they have killed someone or broken something or -- in rare instances -- subsides over a lengthy period of time.
Luxans have a superb sense of smell. Their blood, which is a reddish-black, is pumped through their bodies by two hearts. This allows Luxans to survive in the vacuum of space for half an arn. Luxan wounds are prone to infection, however, and in order to avoid this their wounds must be forced to bleed until the color of the blood changes from black to clear. Luxans are also able to wield a prehensile tongue, able to grab objects from several feet away or deliver a venomous sting capable of stunning a grown man.
Culture[]
Luxans have a warrior culture with a strict code of honor, which includes rules such as never deceiving an opponent, refusing to abandon their allies, and allowing retribution for aggression against an ally. Luxans have no word for "suicide" as it is considered a dishonorable act. Luxans are proud creatures and seldom apologize.
Luxan society is not merely one of warriors. The spiritual leaders of Luxan society are called Oricans, who are capable of incredible psionic feats. Luxans also place great value on the arts, and particularly value the music of an instrument called the shilquen.
Luxans mate through a ritual known as the Luxan Chase. This ritual, which involves the male courting the female, lasts roughly twelve arns.
