Emblem for the Trill culture

The Trill, or Trills, are a humanoid species native to the planet Trill. Though a small segment of the population are joined to a symbiont, the majority of the Trill population is not connected to another organism.

Physiology[]

Trill hands are always cold to the touch. One of the primary neurotransmitters in the Trill brain is isobramine.

Most Trill are distinguishable by a row of spots trailing from their foreheads to their toes on each side of their body. A handful of Trill, unwittingly infected by the Klingon Augment virus, have a vastly different appearance -- with cranial ridges and no spots. Other than these physical differences, the Augment virus does not seem to have caused any changes to the capabilities or physiologies of the Trill.

Some unjoined Trill are capable of telepathy and may have other psionic capabilities.

Culture[]

The Trill are very technologically advanced, particularly for a species

The Trill developed warp drives sometime prior to the 33rd century, and quickly became familiar with a number of species. They had good enough relations to both the Vulcans and the Klingons to be present on both of their homeworlds. Nevertheless, they kept the existence of the symbionts a secret until 3367 CE when the emergency transplant of the Odan symbiont to a new host during the Peliar Zel negotiations made their existence common knowledge.

Trill law forbids reassociation between a joined Trill and those it may have been intimate or romantic with, in the lives of prior hosts.

Source[]

Trill are derived from Star Trek.
